Cancún City Guide
Cancún Highlights:
Nestled on the eastern tip of the Yucatán Peninsula, Cancún is a coastal gem that shines like a diamond in the Caribbean. Once a jungle wilderness, the Mayans called it 'Kankan,' or the 'nest of snakes.' But today, it's a bustling tropical paradise.
History Snapshot:
Tracing back to Mayan times, Cancún was once lost in dense jungle, known as 'Ekab,' or Black Earth. But the Spaniards arrived in 1519, bringing a decline to Mayan civilization. It remained hidden until the 1960s when Mexico decided to unleash its beauty to the world.
Where to Stay:
Cancún's hotel scene is as diverse as its marine life. From luxury resorts to budget-friendly options, you'll find everything nestled along the Zona Hotelera, a strip of paradise sandwiched between the Caribbean Sea and Laguna Nichupte. It's where the party never stops, with nightclubs, shopping malls, and restaurants galore. Downtown offers a taste of local life, while Punta Sam provides a quieter beachfront escape.
